I am not a fan of following directions unless it’s for driving.
If it’s for driving, I want you to tell me where to go down to he finest, minute detail. Drive five blades of grass past the fire hydrant then turn right works for me.
Everything else?
Don’t tell me what to do.
Case in point. I decided to make gluten free pancakes. Like any normal person, I looked up a recipe online and luckily had all the ingredients.
And a few too many ideas to make them better.
In a bid for transparency, I must also admit that I measured wrong, adding 1/2 cup more flour than was called for which obviously necessitated an extra egg and more almond milk.
I think you can see where I’m going. In case you need a visual, feast your eyes on these:
Just your eyes, mind you. You don’t want these anywhere near your mouth.
But as they were cooking, or not quite cooking as the case may be, it occurred to me they might make better scones/biscuits.
Into the oven they went with the addition of a teaspoon of orange marmalade in each one.
Take a look at the glaze on these!
You may be thinking at this point that this story has a happy ending.
It does not.
And guess what? That’s okay.
My mistake to make. My time to waste.
Creativity requires trial and error. Mistakes must be made if you are to create anything: a book, an art piece, a song. A life?
We were never meant to toe the line or follow rules set for the purpose making others’ lives easier.
Or ourselves smaller.
This is not to say I won’t follow the recipe to the nth degree next time.
I might.
But the time after that?
Well.
That’s anybody’s guess!
Three author friends in the spotlight today!
First up, Lani Blake with The Moment He Saw Her!
When she arrives in town with a wedding dress in her trunk, you know there’s going to be trouble.
Ryder Duke’s life was exactly where he wanted it to be.
Then Libby Gulliver drove into his town.
The woman was a hot mess, and hiding from something, even if she told him different.
His first mistake was employing her, his second was letting her move in with him.
Libby was running from a life she’d realized she no longer wanted.
That stopped when she found Ryder Duke.
The big, hot cafe owner was the first person who actually saw her and listened to what she had to say.
The problem was, the more time she spent with him, the more she wanted to tell him the truth—and then it was too late.
Will her lies be the line he can’t cross to be with the woman who could be his future?
Next, Freya Barker with High Velocity…
When the FBI sidelines Special Agent Stephanie Kramer over health concerns, she sees her hard-won dream career go down the drain. Suddenly adrift and without purpose, she jumps at the chance when a friend offers for her to stay in their trailer by a quiet, secluded creek near Libby, Montana. As much as she tries to enjoy the tranquil settings, it’s not long before local wildlife—and the man chasing it—invade her sanctuary. When it appears the job she’s trying to leave behind is following her to Libby, the illusion of her solitary retreat is shattered.
After that last special ops assignment cost Jackson Hart his leg, he’s had a hell of a time getting back on his proverbial feet. Being hired as a member of the High Mountain Trackers team went a long way to reclaiming his sense of identity. He’s back in the saddle and adapting to a pared-down, mostly solitary existence. So the sudden jolt to his gut, when he encounters the blond federal agent he remembers well, is a harsh reminder of what is missing from his life.
Still, as much as they try to avoid the other, they seem destined to cross paths. Whether it is the intimidation of a local predator, or the threat of a former nemesis, it becomes clear they stand stronger together.
And finally, Nichole Rose with Pucking Curves!
Waking up married to his best friend's curvy baby sister might be the best mistake he ever made...
Archer
Everyone thinks they know me. I'm the captain of the team. Dependable. Reliable. Calm. Except… it's all a lie. Especially when it comes to her.
Wren Erikson has been my obsession since I met her. If she knew how far I've gone to keep her close, she'd lose it. So would her brother.
He's my teammate, my ride-or-die. And I'm about to blow up his world.
Because his baby sister is in my bed, wearing my ring. And I'll burn it all to the ground before I let my wife go now.
Wren
My whole life, my older brother's dreams have come before my own. I never really minded until I met Archer Graves. He's the one part of my brother's hectic world I want for myself. Except… he's off-limits.
Until now.
A night of drunken fun wasn't supposed to end with me in his bed and his ring on my finger. But it did. Now, he's determined to make this marriage work. And every time he touches me, I forget exactly why that's a bad idea.
My brother is going to kill us both when he finds out. But…if anything is worth the risk, I think it's this. It's Archer.
God help me, but I can't let this man go.
