I won’t tell you everything I have going on right now because I’m positive you have just as much. And I’m sure you know, especially when life gets hectic, how difficult it is to remain anchored for your kids, your spouse, your, well, your whatever. You fill in the blank.
I will confess how much I love being snowed in. How giddy it makes me when the rest of the world is snowed out.
No appointments.
No extracurriculars.
No dates with friends.
These are the things I dream of when I’m feeling particularly overwhelmed and strung out. Forced rest? I can’t think of anything better.
So why does it have to be forced?
I don’t know where the belief that constant productivity is a worthy goal came from, but I know where to place the blame if I continue to buy into it.
So I got to thinking. What would rest look like to me? And what if I enforced a little bit of it on myself?
Rest isn’t just doing nothing, although it could be.
It’s not vegging out in front of the tv, unless that’s your thing.
And it’s not sleeping. Not for me.
For me, rest is meditation, a hot bath, curling up with a good book away from the rest of the family, and doing something creative. And, oh how I love coloring! Its sole purpose is for the joy of laying color down on paper. It is the ultimate in non-productivity!
What is it for you?
I’d love to know. Drop a line in the comments on Substack, or shoot me a quick email.
And get some rest!

He never knew her issues had a name, but he has eased her through countless flare-ups.
This time, he fears his love won’t be enough.
Heartbroken, Mara wonders if loving Zale means letting him go.
While Zale's usual tactics to reach Mara fail, he’s not giving up.
If he learns what she needs, if she believes what he says, their love just might conquer all.
